Visit Crete Island!!

Millions of people visit Crete every year. The largest among the Greek islands, Crete is a famous tourist destination not only because of its fabulous beaches but also because of its rich culture and colorful history. It has been a seat of civilization since 2600 BC and has managed to remain steep in Homeric culture despite the advancements of modern technology.

Crete is divided into four prefectures, or provinces. These are Heraklion, Chania, Lasithi and Rethymno. Located in Heraklion is the capital city which bears the same name. The other principal cities in Crete (where you can find most crowded beaches, cosmopolitan hotels, hip bars and cafes and hordes of tourists) are Chania (in Chania), Rethymno (in Rethymno), Ierapetra, Agios Nikolaos and Sitia (all in Lasithi). Make sure to visit all its prefectures and main towns, as they are different flavors on their own and have different beaches and ancient tourist attractions. Plan your itinerary wisely before starting out on your tour, so you don’t miss out on any place to explore!

The islands have diverse tourist attractions, so you may want to take your vacation one day at a time. Lounge on the pristine beaches, or take scenic drives through the idyllic mountains and traditional villages. Visit ancient ruins or embark on underwater journeys – there are just so many things to do!

Aside from its pristine beaches, Crete is relatively a rugged island, with mountain ranges speckled with caves, sheer drops and breathtaking cliffs. You can visit Crete anytime, but it’s best to go during the summer months when the skies are blue and the temperature is temperate. Around July and August, the temperature soars up to its peak and the beaches are usually crowded. The clement weather lasts until October.

Crete is a synthesis of the past and present, of the modern and the antique, of contemporary and the traditional – giving you a spontaneous combustion of experiences for the all senses!
